Help me find my pizza?
I grew up in the city of Mar, New Jersey area, which (at that time) had a significant population of origin Italian-and some really great Italian bakeries. Bakeries bread, and also a lot of small convenience stores and corner stores, which are sell pizza from a guy who I have found in Chicago, known in some places as "tomato pie". It was cut square, with thick spongy bark of the whole pie typical (but nothing like the cookie that is the glory of Chicago deep dish), covered with a thick tomato sauce, slightly sweet and a dash of Romano, but not mozzarella. Shops who sold it would have a large tray of things on the counter, covered with a plastic dome. You specify a corner, edge or medium temperature and served environment. Has anyone seen anything like this in the Chicago area? I'm Jonesin 'for some!
Yesss! I know what you are talking about. BOY is good! The best pizza I've had, I'm from Chicago too. You have to go to 73rd Street, next to the thrift store Chairty versus Munk's garbage is a pizzeria called "Manerva Flannery's Pizza Shop!" Manerva also bakes the turkey and Chitlins best you've ever tasted! She opened the store for inmates in Chicago, when is to do your community service. She is a kind soul. Pray for her please, that would be receiving dicorce her husband, Jack Jones Flannery. Thanks then come to taste the best pizza in all the earth!
