I set a new 10 gallon tank about 6 weeks and am having a serious problem with algae and murky water.
I set it up, bought a filter and everything. I let it sit with the filter running for a week after bought 3 mollies, 3 days later, one Molley had babies and I split a day following a network of breeder. The next day, the mother dies and so do other fish. I will buy 2 more and 2 dalmatian mollies black. The following week, the algae Brown begins to form, then the rest of the dalmations die, and all I have are the color black. Then I buy an algae eater (Pleco) and next week dies along with a black molly and brown algae growing. I've been cleaning the tank every week, replacing 1 / 4 of water each time. Use this area to remove the chlorine from the tap. And even to change the filter every week. The water remains cloudy and brown algae continues to grow, what should I do? It is the breeder net and put out 11 babies in their own tank and the fish are far longer period than I have.
The tank is still cycling. As a live fish that emit ammonia, which is dangerous for them. There is a type of bacteria that will start living in the tank that breaks down ammonia to nitrite, which is also dangerous to fish. Another type of bacteria break down the nitrite in nitrate to nitrite, which is not as harmful to fish. It takes some time for this type of Bactria to grow enough to take care of the cargo of fish you will in your tank. When you do water changes to reduce ammonia, which is good for fish, but it will take more time for r the tank for the cycle and when through filter cartridge is launching many of the good bacteria and will have to recycle more. You need to check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate to see when the tank is entirely by bicycle, even if it means taking a sample of water (in a clean container) to the pet store to have them tested. Another way to cycle the tank is only friction with ammonia, add each day (and before adding the test so that you maintain a stable supply. It will happen the same way as when have fish in there, but I will not lose any fish due to ammonia intoxication.
