Need help setting up wireless router to WEP encryption. What is the hex "key"? Should I use 64 or 128 bit?
Okay. The "HEX Key" is a series of random numbers from 0-9, and the letters AE. Giving 16 possibilities for each space. There are 26 seats in 128-bit hexadecimal and 10 spaces in 64 bits. So, with 128-bits, there are 16 possibilities to 26. In 64 bits, which is 16 to the power 10. Either way, a hacker is not going to guess that phrase of way. 128 bits is exponentially more difficult to decipher even with a descriptor. Imma give you an example of each, the numbers / letters are in pairs. 64 bits: 1A 2B 3C 4D 5E or 12 CD AB 34 56 ... 128 bit: 1A 2B 3C 4D 5E 6F 7A 8B 9C 0D 1E 2F 3A 0R 12 AB 34 CD 56 EF 78 AB 90 CD 12 EF 34 .. use your own combination of these parameters, and the love of God ... Write it down somewhere in exactly as you type! I do not want to do a hard reset the router, after spending all the time to configure it.
